Locum Consultant in Reproductive Medicine

Barts Health NHS Trust are currently welcoming applications for a full time 0.5PA Grade to join the Centre for Reproductive Medicine, based at St Bartholomew's Hospital. This appointment will initially be for 12 months on a fixed term basis.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all activities of the consultant-led general fertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART) service. The successful applicant will join the team of 3 Subspecilaty Trained Consultants and two Specialist Grade doctors in the Centre for Reproductive Medicine in providing a complete range of services, in addition to managing and training junior medical and nursing staff. The Centre for Reproductive Medicine is based within the Bart's Cancer Centre at St Bartholomew's Hospital and is one of the largest NHS secondary and tertiary facility services, with excellent clinical results. The Centre also part of the Barts Health Women's Health Clinical Academic Group (CAG). The clinical strategy of the Cancer Centre supports the continuing development of the Reproductive Medicine service to improve the standard of clinical are care and to work closely with other local services in the community and at local and regional hospitals.

The successful applicant will be expected to play a key role in the on-going development of the service and will work alongside one of the consultants to develop and expand a service if they desire.

Main duties of the job

o Be responsible for a clinical caseload, ensuring highest quality of clinical care.

o Work within a team of other senior clinicians, the operational management team and the senior embryologist under the supervision of the lead clinician and medical director, to manage and develop the Centre.

o To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, Community Services and all health care agencies, as well as clinical colleagues across the Trust.

o To participate in the consultant on-call rota covering ad-hoc out-of-hours work for the Centre for Reproductive Medicine and general Gynaecology at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London hospitals, as well as to provide cover for colleagues in time of absence and leave when required.

  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • The equivalent of 4 years full time postgraduate training of which 2 years in a Reproductive Medicine trainee post

Desirable

  • Higher research degree (MD, PhD, MD (Res))
  • Other qualifications which might enhance the provision of the service e.g. Teaching qualification, management qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of broad experience in Obstetrics aand Gynaecology
  • Minumum 2 yeasr experience in Assisted Reproductive Techniques
  • Experience in gynaecological ultrasound
  • Able to take responsibility of service without direct supervision

Desirable

  • Experience performing Hycosys

  • Specialist experience and training in Reproductive Medicine
  • Good knowledge and experience in Assisted Reproductive Techniques
