The closing date is 11 January 2026

Job summary

Advert for Fixed term contract (1 Year) Senior Clinical Trials Research Fellow in Clinical Haematology

Context:The Department of Clinical Haematology is based on 4 sites (Royal London, St Bartholomew's, Whipps Cross and Newham) and functions as one department. The medical team consists of 26 consultant hematologists and 9 haematology trainees, plus several middle grade and academic haematology fellows. We have a busy and interesting clinical and research practice and hold the largest NIHR-funded research portfolio for non-malignant haematology research in the UK. The department is specialized commissioned for red cell and haemophilia / bleeding disorders specialty care.

About the post:One of the key objectives for the NIHR National Haematology Specialty Group is to increase registrar involvement in research. The specialty group aims to recruit at least one registrar from each of the 15 regions of England to take up the position of NIHR specialty trainee lead for haematology research. This appointment aims to deliver this goal for our region and will be a parallel appointment to an additional appointment in the North of the North Thames region (UCLH based)

The principal aim for this post is to offer the opportunity for a senior registrar to become clinical trials active prior to completing training, enabling them to continue to be trials active upon accepting a consultant appointment.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will increase the number of participants recruited into haematology trials at Barts Health through a targeted "personal" portfolio of 3 or 4 studies to be agreed on upon appointment. They will become involved in the set-up process and come to understand the on-going recruitment and data returning requirements. It will be important to also engage in tracking of departmental funds attached to study recruitment. During the OOPE, the individual will be a research "champion" for his/her peers in the local training region of North Thames. This will involve organisation of engagement events for education about clinical trials, contributing to dissemination of notable trials information and looking for novel ways to increase research awareness within their peer group. There will be additional, structured training opportunities to supplement the experiential clinical trials training.

We want you to help us develop our world-leading department. We commit to supporting and nurturing you in your clinical and research interests. We believe that international innovation in Haematology can be driven by engaging our staff and enabling the people of East London to participate in pioneering clinical trials and new technologies.
