Clinical Paediatric Sleep Physiologist

The closing date is 25 November 2025

Job summary

An exciting new position is available for motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable individual to join the Sleep and Respiratory Physiology team in the role of Specialist Paediatric Sleep Physiologist at the Children's Sleep and Respiratory Service (Royal London Children's Hospital).

The service has seen rapid growth and uses innovative approaches and equipment to maintain excellent patient experience for our paediatric population. Our service engages in both clinical and research activity as we have close links with Queen Mary University of London.

We are part of the paediatric respiratory service which employs a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of childhood respiratory disorders. We are a rapidly expanding team that encourages career growth and progression. We provide diagnostics and therapies for respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders via cardiorespiratory and polysomnography sleep studies, MSLTs, actigraphy, oximetry, Physiologist/NIV led clinics, and Sleep consultations.

The post holder should have excellent communication skills to work as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team (doctors, CNS, ward nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists, psychologists, and scientists). The successful candidate will have proven experience of sleep and lung function in children, be able to work independently, participate in the running and expansion of the service and contribute to on-going research projects.

Main duties of the job

This Band 5 role offers a secure, well-supported route to build strong foundations in paediatric sleep physiology. Working within a friendly multidisciplinary team, you will help assess and treat children with respiratory and sleep disorders by preparing and running sleep studies (home and in-lab), fitting and troubleshooting equipment, and analysing physiological data to support timely, accurate diagnosis. You will deliver excellent, family-centred care--welcoming children and parents, explaining tests clearly, providing basic results guidance where appropriate, and ensuring comfort and safety throughout. You will also contribute to maintaining high clinical standards through good documentation, infection prevention, equipment care, and adherence to protocols. With structured supervision and training, you will develop the skills and confidence to become a key member of the service, participate in quality-improvement and audit, and work closely with physiologists, nurses, and medical staff to improve outcomes and experience for every child.
