Main duties of the job

The post-holder will contribute to many aspects of the Department's work which includes testing of radiation and imaging equipment, data handling and analysis, support for research trials, audits and software development work.

  • BSc (Hons) Physics or equivalent.
  • MSc in Radiation Physics or equivalent experience.
  • NHS STP training in medical physics or equivalent experience
  • Registered Clinical Scientist or expercation to achieve registration within 1 year

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the HRA research study approval process
  • Progress towards any of RPA, RWA or MPE portfolios

  • Relevant experience in radiation safety applied to the use of ionsing radiation in healthcare and diagnostic radiology physics
  • Able to performance test a wide range of diagnostic x-ray imaging equipment - simple to mid-range systems on own, more complex systems with supervision.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Access: able to set up databases and spreadsheets and extract information.
  • Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from radiation exposure and of the image quality requirements for a range of diagnostic imaging procedures
  • Able to produce written reports within a defined timescale.

  • Specialist knowledge in radiation and imaging physics as applied in medicine
  • Specialist knowledge of the techniques employed to measure the performance and radiological safety of a range of X-ray imaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection legislation in healthcare and biomedical research
