Job summary
This is a fixed term, full time Specialist Grade role to provide maternity leave cover in the Oral Medicine department based at the Royal London Dental Hospital. This role will be focused on delivering clinical activity in outpatients, working together with the multi-disciplinary team. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having some commitment to the teaching and training of junior staff.
Major areas of Oral Medicine at RLH Hospital include out-patient services and contributing to the management of in patients when requested by medical teams. It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the delivery of aspects of these services depending upon their interests and experience.
Main duties of the job
The post will be based at the Dental Hospital and the proposed Job Plan is included in this pack. There will be 9 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care and 1 session for Supporting Professional Activity (SPA).
As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following:-
The provision of a first class clinical service
Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
If interested sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with QMUL
Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans
Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Division or the Trust

- Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Member of the faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent
- Current holder of an NHS or Honorary contract in Oral Medicine
Training and Experience
Essential
- At least 12 years of medical work. After obtaining a primary medical qualification, six years should have been in a relevant specialty.
- Demonstrates the underpinning subject-specific competences ie, knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to the role setting and scope.
- Experience of managing the difficulties of dealing with complexity and uncertainty in the care of patients: employing expertise and clinical decision-making skills of a senior and independent/ autonomous practitioner.
