Radiotherapy Physics Senior Dosimetrist

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to for a Band 7 senior dosimetrist to join the radiotherapy physics team at St Bartholomew's Hospital. The department delivers a comprehensive Radiotherapy service to approximately 2000 patients per year including a brachytherapy service and a complex Stereotactic Radiotherapy service.

A major part of the work involves complex treatment planning, including Stereotactic (SRS and SABR), VMAT and dynamic IMRT Planning. Adaptive Radiotherapy Planning is in development. The senior dosimetrist would also be involved in independent checking the treatment plans and providing dosimetric advice following image review of patients on treatment.

Treatment Planning is carried out on Eclipse for the five Varian TrueBeam linacs, two of the five TrueBeam linacs have HyperArc and a 6d couch for intracranial Stereotactic treatment.

Pre-treatment imaging is carried out on the department's widebore CT scanner and there is also access to MR and PET-CT in the hospital

Main duties of the job

To provide an efficient, high quality patient dosimetry service for Radiotherapy. To deputise in the management of the team of dosimetrists providing the highly specialised, dosimetric treatment planning service to the Radiotherapy Department. Provide advice to the Clinical Oncologists, Radiographers and Physicists on highly complex dosimetric treatment plans. Provide an in-vivo dosimetry service. Participate in the teaching, training and development work of the Section.

All duties are in support of the radiotherapy physics provision within the Trust. The postholder has a responsibility to report all abnormal or unusual results, or measurements lying outside tolerance limits, to the Head of Section or deputy. The work requires a high degree of accuracy with the postholder having a strong sense of responsibility and displaying personal initiative.

The postholder will be an Operator as defined by the Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations (IRMER 2017).
