Consultant Cardiologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Cardiologist to join the Cardiology team at Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK and part of UCLPartners, Europe's largest academic health science partnership. This new substantive post will be based across St Bartholomew's Hospital, the Royal London Hospital, and the newly developed Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Mile End Hospital, serving the vibrant community of northeast London.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of cardiac care, particularly within the new state-of-the-art CDC at Mile End. You will play a key role in developing and operating clinical pathways with a strong imaging focus, utilising cutting-edge technology including a newly purchased photon counting cardiac enabled CT scanner. Responsibilities include contributing to early disease detection programs, supervising physiologist/clinical scientist-led services, participating in specialist MDTs (including valve and heart failure), and undertaking consultant of the week duties at the Royal London Hospital (4 weeks and 4 weekends per year), managing acute cardiology admissions and providing specialist input.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to be fully trained in General Cardiology, as well as having relevant subspecialty imaging skills in echocardiography and cardiac CT scanning. The appointee will have responsibility for the strategic development and operation of both clinical pathways with strong imaging content and early disease detection in-reach and outreach programs. The appointee will have responsibility for the supervision of an increasing portfolio of physiologist/ clinical scientist delivered services. These functions will be supported by the NEL ICB, the Specialist cardiology directorate, the CDC management team and the Cardiac Diagnostics directorate.

The successful candidate will possess expertise in all forms of echo imaging and cardiac CT scanning. A key focus will be leveraging consultant-led care to support service development within the CDC, with opportunities to lead or contribute to various areas, including developing imaging/valve disease services
