Locum Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with an interest In Adult Congenital Surgery (10 Programmed Activities) Applications are invited for the above post which will be based at the Barts Heart Centre, Barts Health NHS Trust. Barts Health NHS Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in Britain and the cardiovascular centre is one of the largest of its kind in Europe, providing sector wide care to a population of over 6 million. The successful applicant will be joining a team of 2 surgical GUCH consultants, 15 adult surgeons. Applicants should have completed subspecialist training in surgical congenital heart disease, and cardiac surgery. Applicants will be expected to participate in a 1:8 on-call rota for the GUCH and aortic service and will also provide a consult service for GUCH inpatients. Applicants wishing to apply for this post should possess the MRCP or equivalent, be GMC-registered with a license to practice and hold specialist registration
Main duties of the job
1. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care. 2. Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trust's business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director, the General Manager and the CAG Group Director
3. Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.

1. The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of GUCH surgery 2. An additional role is to deliver and further develop a new Virtual Ward service using an established digital platform and expand its usage to our referring hospitals. 3. To enhance and further develop a world GUCH service 4. Participate in the multidisciplinary Inherited Cardiovascular Disease team, contributing to the development of complex treatments, innovations and research 5. To undertake 2 days of operating, flexibly. 6. The consultant clinical responsibilities which are involved in patient care including participation in the Consultant of the Week rota. (1in 19 weeks) 7. Once clinic per week with new and follow-up outpatients. 4. To provide diagnosis and treatment of patients in hospitals and clinics within the Trust 5. To provide evidence-based care for all patients. 6. To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues, managers, general practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies. 7. To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work, working particularly closely and regularly with existing post-holders 8. To participate fully in the management of the department and to liaise closely with the general manager and the Clinical and CAG Group Director and management team.
