Trust Doctor (Eqv ST7/ST8) in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes

Job summary

This is an exciting 12 months post suitable for a doctor with MRCPCH (or equivalent) with previous experience in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes who wishes to gain in depth training in Prader Willi Syndrome and related endocrinology and diabetes.

They may be wishing to pursue a career in paediatric endocrinology or be keen to acquire further experience in the speciality.

The appointee will be based within the tertiary Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes service at the Royal London Children's Hospital and will receive an honorary appointment at Queen Mary University of London, Centre for Endocrinology. There are no night-time / weekend duties associated with this appointment. The postholder will also participate in research and service evaluation.

The role of the post holder focuses on outpatient management of children with endocrine disorders, in particular Prader Willi Sydrome and related conditions such as type 2 diabetes. They will participate occasionally in the care of inpatients on the endocrine and diabetes ward as appropriate, but there is no out of hours commitment. There will be opportunity to attend outreach clinics and other specialty endocrine clinics.

Main duties of the job

Participation in outpatient endocrine and diabetes clinics (1-2/week) including PWS and Type 2 diabetes specialty clinics.

This includes preparation of patients before clinic, attending post-clinic meetings, writing clinic letters, following up results of investigations, patient presentations for transition to adult care, for social services meetings etc

Occasional management of inpatients as appropriate including discharge duties

Occasional supervising day-case dynamic investigations as appropriate in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Endocrinology

Completing result summaries for dynamic investigations for PWS patients

Presentation of clinical cases at local, regional and national meetings such as dynamic investigation meeting, pituitary midline meeting, radiology meeting, clinical case meetings, postgraduate teaching, PWS and T2 diabetes meetings
