This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic respiratory nurse interested in outpatient care and conducting clinical research.
St Bartholomew's Hospital houses the regional specialist respiratory medicine service including NHSE commissioned tertiary referral services for Home Ventilation, Severe Asthma, Allergy and Cystic Fibrosis. Our outpatient department runs more than a dozen separate Respiratory clinics including those dedicated to patients with Severe Asthma, CF, Bronchiectasis, Sleep and Ventilation, Allergy including subcutaneous desensitisation (immunotherapy) clinics, Lung Cancer, Cough, Interstitial Lung disease and COPD. Our service is supported by a well very equipped Respiratory Function Unit that provides a comprehensive range of investigations including histamine challenge, skin prick testing, Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise Testing and fitness to fly tests. Respiratory Medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital is part of the world-renowned Barts Heart & Thorax Centre.
Main duties of the job
The Respiratory Network within the Trust includes Respiratory Medicine Departments at Royal London Hospital, Mile End Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital, and Newham Hospital. Each of these have teams of dedicated Respiratory Medicine Consultants, nurses and junior doctors with comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services.
Clinical Research is an important component to providing the highest standards of care in the NHS and there is a significant association between clinical centres being research-active and providing the best care to patients. This new post will facilitate expansion of our research portfolio, combining clinical research activity with outpatient clinical care. The post-holder will work with respiratory clinical academics to recruit patients in to clinical trials and conduct study visits as well as assisting with study setup, governance and procedures.
The post is fixed-term 12 months but may be renewed for suitable candidates.
