Barts Health NHS Trust Trust Doctor (ST3+) in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care We are recruiting Trust Doctor in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Cardiothoracic Critical Care.This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the UK's premier cardiac centre - Barts Heart Centre. The Barts Heart Centre (BHC) is a new venture formed by the merging of cardiothoracic services from the London Chest Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Heart Hospital. This has created the UK's largest cardiothoracic centre with nearly all specialist cardiac services for North Central and North East London and beyond, as well as highly specialised national services, brought together in the newly built hospital on the St Bartholomew's site. Barts Heart Centre has 10 operating theatres, 10 catheter labs and over 250 cardiac, vascular and thoracic beds, creating one of Europe's largest Cardiothoracic Centres. The new hospital contains 58 critical care beds. 2 ICUs and 1 HDU comprising 42 beds form the surgical cardiothoracic surgical critical care unit, adjacent to theatres. A fourth ICU of 16 beds on the 6th floor provides dedicated General ICU, admitting complex cardiac patients, together with cardiology and respiratory patients in addition to patients suffering from haematological disease. Patients in critical care are cared for with all types of organ support including extracorporeal respiratory and cardiovascular support (ECMO).
Main duties of the job
There are 9 senior fellows in cardiothoracic anaesthesia mostly in their advanced training year or undertaking post-CCT fellowships; 14 rotational anaesthetic registrars, 4 clinical fellows (ST grade) and a further 9 clinical fellows or ICM trainees covering the GICU.There are 16 junior doctors (SHO level) across the various ICUs, half of these are rotational internal medical trainees and half are made up by junior fellows.We have dedicated advanced critical care practitioners (ACCP) since the beginning of 2021 to assist with the most junior tier of trainees

Intermediate Training LevelFollowing changes to the North East London School of Anaesthesia training programme, we are now able to offer a few short term fellowships in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care.These posts would be suitable for those individuals aiming to complete the CESR in anaes-thesia or who simply want to increase their experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia. Success-ful candidates will be required to have undergone extensive basic training in anaesthesia (equivalent to core anaesthetic training in the UK) and ideally have some experience at spe-cialist registrar level. They would be expected to have the Primary FRCA or equivalent as a minimum, but would not be expected to have undertaken any cardiothoracic training prior to joining the department.The workload would be split between time spent in the cardiothoracic critical care units and operating theatres and cath labs and would involve all aspects of perioperative care of the car-diothoracic surgical and cardiology patient.On call commitment would be as resident on one of the two CICUs working as part of a full shift, 9 person rota complaint with both EWTD and 2016 UK junior doctor contract guidelines.These fellows will be appointed to the anaesthetic department and will be accountable to the clinical director of the department. Clinical and educational supervisors will be allocated on commencement of the job.
Full GMC registration with a license to practice is required.
