Job summary

It is anticipated that this will be a fixed-term appointment for 12 months to extend the post, dependent on success.

The post-holder must have,or have by the time of appointment, the MRCOG Part 2 qualification with interests, clinical skills and knowledge in high-risk obstetrics and acute gynaecology and be an O&G doctor or (ST3-4 or equivalent) with interests, clinical skills and knowledge in high-risk obstetrics and acute gynaecology.

The primary clinical work area will be ambulatory obstetrics - high-risk maternity triage and the antenatal ward setting. This includes managing maternal medicine patients through the maternal medicine network including an opportunity to develop ultrasound skill in the fetal medicine unit.

There will be an opportunity for the post holder to maintain and develop their acute gynaecology skills to serve as evidence for portfolio development.

Main duties of the job

General Duties of the Post Holder

It is intended that the post holder will contribute to general obstetrics and gynaecology duties. The post holder is expected to be competent in obstetrics and gynaecology and able to work in a busy tertiary unit.

Teaching & training

The post holders will be expected to contribute to the teaching of junior medical staff and take an active role within the training programme for trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology. We are proud of our teaching - delivering at least daily training to our junior and middle-grade doctors on technical and non-technical skills.

The post-holder will begin on the senior register rota at 1:10 on calls. This is a 3-tier rota; there are 2 SHOs on call, a Junior registrar and a Senior registrar. The onsite obstetric consultant covers at The Royal London Hospital from 08:00-2200.

There is a separate Gynaecology Consultant on call who is onsite from 08:00 -1700 and off-site from 17:00-08:00
