Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a fixed term 1 year Band 7 Specialist Medicine / Surgical Dietitian to join our friendly and enthusiastic Adult Dietetics Department at the Royal London Hospital.The role will cover surgery and specialist medicine. You will also be expected to cover the type 1 intestinal failure ward round.
The successful candidate should have expert knowledge and experience within the area complex nutrition support and in the provision of parenteral nutrition.
We are committed to work based education and training to improve clinical skills and we actively encourage CPD and research. We take students for placements 1,2 and 3 and are a friendly department that promotes team work.
The post holder would need to demonstate good leadership qualities, the ability to supervise junior staff and show initative in leading projects. We are looking for Individuals that are flexible and organised with excellent commuication skills.
Main duties of the job
1. To be the lead dietitian for dietetic interventions within the specialties of specialist medicine and surgery.2. Responsible for providing expert dietetic assessment, treatment and advice to a specialist caseload of medical and surgical patients.3. To work alongside the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide an effective service including attending and contributing to ward rounds, board rounds and MDT meetings.4. Advocate for nutrition for patients with complex needs. This includes initiating and engaging in best interests discussions for patients who lack capacity.5. To use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to dietetic and other clinical staff within Barts Health.6. To support band 6 dietitian in the provision of nutritional support to complex patients and developing their skills.7. To be responsible for planning and delivering specialist training to medical staff, nurses and student and other health care professionals in the surgical field8. Partake in the development of trust wide policies, protocol and guidelines9. To ensure that research and audit is undertaken on a regular basis to ensure that practice is evidence based
