The Paediatric department is based at Whipps Cross Hospital and is part of the Children's Clinical Board and Network within Barts Health, you will be joining a medical department that currently has 14 Consultant Acute Physicians and 32 Junior Doctors

Main duties of the job

Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group, is seeking a full-time Paediatric Clinical Fellow for a 12-month fixed-term contract. We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician to join our multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, and support staff in the Paediatric Department, based at Whipps Cross Hospital. The post will commence in September and involves providing clinical services across several areas, including the Paediatric A&E Department, Paediatric Assessment Unit, Children's Outpatient Department, Labour Ward, and Postnatal Wards, as appropriate.

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years experience working at SHO Level (or equivalent) including six months experience of working as SHO in Level 2 Neonatal Unit
  • Appreciation of role of audit in clinical practice

Desirable

  • Work experience in Level 3 Neonatal Unit at SHO Level
  • Interest and participation in clinical audit and / or quality improvement
  • Teaching Experience

Skills

Essential

  • Good communication skills
  • Clinical skills commonly expected in general paediatric and neonatal practice, including venepuncture, cannulation, and lumbar puncture
  • Clear, concise and well-presented application
  • Interpersonal skills (ability to establish good working relationships with patients, carers and colleagues)
  • Coo-operative team member and able to function as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

  • Neonatal intubation (term and pre-term)
  • Neonatal central line insertion (umbilical and peripherally inserted)

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • MB ChB, MRPCH part 1 (or equivalent, APLS, NLS
  • Sound general paediatric knowledge
  • Competence in assessment and management of ill children in the acute setting
  • Competent in resuscitation of paediatric patients

Desirable

  • MRCPCH part 2 theory and clinical examinations
  • Knowledge of organisation of NHS
