Job summary

The Barts Heart Centre at St. Bartholomew's Hospital is looking for an experienced senior nurse for our cancer inpatient wards and day surgery units u for the Cancer divison to be part of an evolving and dynamic Cancer Team within our Department. We are looking for a cancer nurse with significant experience within a cancer or similar acute care setting and be a registered healthcare professional.

You will have obtained a qualification in a nursing or allied health professional background and have a cancer care qualification with significant experience with the delivery or implementation of inpatient care delivery & strategy with a strong emphasis on quality & safety.

As a senior nurse within the cancer division , we are responsible for promoting and protecting the reputation of the Trust whilst maintaining a duty of care to our patients.

The role of the senior nurse is to provide high quality, safe and supportive care. The senior will not only be a clinical expert but will also have commitments to the education and training of the multi-disciplinary team and to research and audit projects.

Main duties of the job

Providing professional and clinical leadership within the Cancer inpatient wards , Endocrine Day case unit , Surgery day unit , Breast services , Specialist palliative care , Cancer CNS across the Cancer Networks

The post holder has specific responsibility for professional leadership and operational nursing management to ensure the services are delivering against hospital and group objectives by translating the organisations vision and values in to meaningful actions for the service area and hold staff to account for their delivery

Ensuring that the nursing and wider team work efficiently and effectively to maintain performance and delivery of high quality safe care

Ensuring there are systems in place to measure and monitor the quality of care particularly through the use of measurement for improvement

Ensuring the rapid spread of evidence based practice across their areas of responsibility

Developing systems that measure risk and be able to diagnose and quantify risk

Developing and implementing strategies for promoting a safety culture within their service areas

Taking a lead role in the implementation and monitoring of the Trust's risk and governance strategy at service level

Ensuring that patients are actively involved in the development of services and the monitoring of quality

To identify areas for service improvement through the use of a working knowledge of improvement methodologies and to prepare business cases for change where appropriate
