Job summary

An opportunity for a substantive Matron post has arisen in Specialist Medicine Division at the Royal London Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, experienced Band 7 Registered Nurse to take the next step in their leadership journey. The post holder will be passionate about high quality, patient centered care and understand the need for change and quality improvement across the services. The role involves working with directorate MDT colleagues to ensure governance, safety and quality metrics are adhered to. You will be passionate about improving care and services for patients and will have led on quality improvement projects or initiative's.

You will have experience in managing teams of nurses and be a compassionate, forward thinking leader who is confident in their abilities. The role will include clinical and operational management of services and nursing teams including ward/unit leaders and clinical nurse specialists. You will have experience of workforce utilisation and understand safe staffing and regular reviews.

You will understand the importance of governance, quality and safety in relation to patient care and this will be at the heart of your practice as a nurse leader. The role will involve leading initiatives and projects to sustain and improve care whist inspiring your team to do the same. Inspiring and developing members of your team is a key element of the role and we are looking for someone with this mindset and drive.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a high level of clinical and professional leadership to nursing teams within the directorate, ensuring that care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively. The Matron will be accountable for quality, safety and improvement strategies across the directorate.

The post holder will provide professional nursing leadership across specialist medicine to ward/unit managers and clinical nurse specialist's whilst working in close collaboration with the directorate triumvirate. The post holder will provide expert leadership, supervision and guidance to direct reports.

The Matron will be accessible and visible to staff, patients, and visitors. Working with the senior nurse, the post holder will ensure that the directorate contributes significantly to the achievement of Trust objectives and that effective governance arrangements are implemented and maintained. The Matron may deputise for the Senior Nurse in their absence. The Matron will be included in the Senior Nurse/Matron weekend rota for the site.
