Post CCT Complex Spine Fellow in Spinal Surgery

Job summary

We are looking to appoint 2 post CCT Clinical Fellow in Spinal Surgery. Based at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. There are 12 Complex Spine consultants from the Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical sub-specialities. Current elective and trauma facilities are centred at the Royal London within the new hospital, which opened in March 2012 with world-class facilities.

The Neurosurgery Registrar is first On Call for emergencies. The Orthopaedic Complex Spine fellow is not formally required to be on call out of hours but is expected to take part in emergency trauma surgery out of hours during the week an at weekends. The Orthopaedic Complex Spine fellow will support the Neurosurgery Registrar during the weekday On Call with advice on Network referrals and arranging Spine Emergency Lists

The post will require Outpatient Spine elective Clinic and Theatre sessions to be based at Newham General Hospitals.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and must be post CCT or within 3 months of obtaining CCT to be eligible to apply for the post. Previous experience as a Senior Orthopaedic Spine Registrar is a required criteria for your application.

Main duties of the job

Maintain continuing responsibility for the care of patients within the Spinal Surgery Service, including all clinical and administrative duties associated with patient care.oEnsure effective liaison and communication with the Spine Fellowship Co-ordinator, Clinical Lead for Spine Surgery, Network Lead for Spine Surgery, Service Managers, and General Manager for Neurosciences to ensure seamless service delivery.oDevelop subspecialty interests that complement the existing expertise of the consultant team, actively participating in research programs.oPresent at a minimum of two national or international spine surgery conferences and complete at least one peer-reviewed publication during the fellowship.oMaintain corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management and supervision of doctors in training within the department.
