Job summary

The successful candidates will need to demonstrate post graduate experience in MRI. The ability to train and engage radiographers in MRI will be essential, as will the review and implementation of new scanning protocols in conjunction with Radiologists and ensuring all staff are aware of the new studies/procedures. A current awareness of MRI safety especially with devices and implants.

They should also have excellent organisational skills, be able to foster good working relationships with internal and external clients, be self-motivated and able to motivate others within the team.The candidates will be required to work full time on a rota covering Monday-Sunday 08:00-20:00 shift system

Key working relationships will be with the Imaging site lead, MRI Modality Lead Radiographer, MRI Operational Lead, MRI Clinical specialist, Radiologists, other MRI radiographers, Imaging Assistants and other clinical and professional staff.

Diagnostic Imaging service at Barts Health was devolved as a Group networked services under Clinical Services to individual hospital sites in September 2021. Having reviewed our current divisional functions we have decided to create a sixth division for the growing services that the RLH and MEH are responsible for. This will ensure that we have the right support and infrastructure to run our services well.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will participate in the effective and safe running of the MRI department and will be able to perform a wide range of specialist MRI scans in the extended hours 7-day service. The post holder will offer supervision to band 6 radiographers, imaging assistants, students, and visitors to the MRI department. The post holder will ensure patient flow in the trust by actively managing the flow of emergency and in-patients to ensure same day scanning. Furthermore, they will be expected to engage in prompt protocolling, checking of conditional devices, booking of sedated and GA patients, liaison with radiologists and other clinicians to actively unblock barriers to scanning. The post holder will be key in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and experience and will be enabled to deal with and diffuse potential complaints to the patient and carers' satisfaction. On-call/out of hours work is a requirement of this role.
