Based at Newham University Hospital

The successful candidate will work in the Women and Children's division at NUH, which is part of the Barts Health NHS Trust; one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK.

To be considered for the post, you must have full GMC Registration and it must to hold MRCPCH or equivalent. You should have appropriate training and experience in general paediatrics and neonatology.

The Paediatric rainbow centre is a very busy department and looks after deprived and young paediatric population. It is a 21 bedded Paediatrics ward which includes 7 cubicles, two bedded well equipped HDU unit. It also has 6 bedded day care ward for minor day surgery for children over 3 years of age. The department also has 6 bedded observational unit and has 23 beds including 2 intensive, 4 HDU care beds.

The Level II Neonatal unit cares for babies born at more than 27 weeks. We work collaboratively as part of a network with the tertiary unit at the Royal London Hospital. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage their workload in an organised manner as well as work well under pressure. The post will be based at Newham University Hospital which provides acute general paediatrics and neonatal services to one of Britain's most diverse, fastest growing and youngest populations.

Main duties of the job

This is a Trust Clinical Fellow post suitable for doctors who wish to pursue career in Paediatrics and in neonatal care. Trust is committed to supporting the post holder in developing a career in Paediatrics. This post is full time fixed term appointment for 6 months and is trust grade .

Day Time Clinical Duties

Ward Round, providing cover to ambulatory unit, participating in outpatient clinics, and A*E, Providing cover to labor ward and postnatal ward, all with consultant supervision on a consultant of-the- week system.

On call Commitment

Full shift system, 7 people in a rota, providing cover to NICU, delivery suit, and postnatal ward or paediatric ward and A& E. There is a separate Registrar rota for Paediatric and Neonatal at all levels including Consultants, Registrar and SHOs.

Audit and Research

The appointee will be expected to participate fully in the departmental audit programme, to aid in developing of clinical services guidelines and to support SHOs in these activities. Participation in clinical research that is related to service delivery, particularly the chosen specialty, will be encouraged and facilitated. Research registrar is in post and takes responsibility of facilitating audits and research.
