A unique opportunity to join Barts Health NHS Trust as a Specialist Pharmacist working in the Emergency Department (ED) to support the Sickle Cell Ambulatory Care unit in the Royal London Hospital to enhance and improve community and emergency services for sickle cell patients.

You will work closely with medical and nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team in ED with a focus on the newly launched Sickle Cell Ambulatory Care Unit on a wide range of medicines optimisation matters, and to ensure standardisation of medicine optimisation and management policies and procedures wherever appropriate.

The Sickle Cell Ambulatory Care Unit within the Emergency Department will play a crucial role in the North East London Sickle Cell Transformation pilot. It aims to enhance the emergency care pathway for specialist patients by addressing their complex healthcare needs through a responsive approach, ultimately improving the overall patient experience.

As a senior pharmacist based in ED, you will also be expected to contribute to the quality improvement projects and basic service provision and research agenda working with staff across all relevant areas.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will play a key role in transforming care for sickle cell patients in the new Emergency Department Sickle Cell Ambulatory Care Unit, within the multidisciplinary team of the unit to provide compassionate and patient-centered care at the Royal London Hospital.

The postholder will optimise medicines management and improve care pathways to ensure these patients receive the best possible support tailored to their unique needs. To promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective prescribing and management of medicines within the sickle cell ambulatory care unit and ED in order to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and improve medicines safety.

The postholder will contribute to shaping the future of pharmacy services in emergency and community care, and making a real difference in the lives of patients and their families

  • MPharm or equivalent.
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC.
  • Postgraduate certificate in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
  • Independent prescribing qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience in an acute hospital based clinical post.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care.
  • Experience of undertaking research, quality improvement or audit projects.
  • To have been involved in bringing about change to a service/department

Desirable

  • Experience delivering care in patients with sickle cell disease
