Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, and experienced Christian minister committed to working within a multi-faith chaplaincy team, to provide high quality Spiritual and Religious Care to patients, visitors and staff.
The post holder must be a recognised, accredited Christian minister with at least 3 years full-time ordained ministry experience (or equivalent full-time public ministry), and able to offer Christian ministry in demanding and sensitive situations.
The provision of high-quality pastoral, spiritual and religious care will be informed by a good working knowledge of the theories underpinning this care from their own tradition, as well as an awareness of the beliefs and practices of other Christian traditions and other faiths.
The post will require a minister who can confidently articulate their own position while being committed to learning and to developing strong working relationships with others in the multifaith team and the wider Trust staff.
It is essential that the post holder is able to digest and apply key Trust policies that relate to the work of chaplaincy. These include: the NHS Policy on Confidentiality; Infection Prevention and Control policies; Health Care Chaplaincy Standards
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this job include:
the provision of pastoral, spiritual, and religious care for patients, visitors, staff and students of all faiths and beliefs
regular pastoral visiting within wards and departments and providing specific support to the seriously ill and those requiring end of life spiritual and religious care
the provision of support for distressed or bereaved relatives as required
assisting and advising clergy and other religious leaders in the pastoral and spiritual care of their people while in hospital, being mindful of the rules of confidentiality by which every NHS employee is bound
providing training and advice to healthcare staff in the generic spiritual and pastoral care of patients
Supporting the Chaplaincy Management in fulfilling the Trust objectives for the delivery of Chaplaincy and Bereavement Care
supporting the Head of Chaplaincy in the development of Trust policies relating to Chaplaincy and Bereavement
taking responsibility for the maintenance of requisites for the sanctuary and multi-faith prayer space and for bedside attendance
regular participation in team meetings and opportunities for reflecting on pastoral practice
