The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health is one of the largest in the country and covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services from our five hospital sites across the City of London, East and Northeast London.

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to a Lead Pharmacy Technician, Band 6 role at The Royal London Hospital Medicines Distribution Unit (MDU).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Medicines Distribution Unit (MDU), including all aspects of medicine receipt and supply to the wards, departments, and theatres of Barts Health NHS Trust. The role will also include supporting procurement activities, receipt of stock from suppliers, maintaining the Pharmacy Robot and ensuring optimum stock control.

Essential

  • BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences /NVQ 3 or equivalent
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council GPhC

Desirable

  • Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
  • ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
  • GDP course/willingness to complete

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience as a pharmacy technician
  • Significant experience working in an acute NHS hospital setting, including stock distribution and top-up services
  • Experience in training/supervising staff
  • Pharmacy labelling and stock control systems
  • Experience in completing audits and implementing change
  • Use of Datix incident reporting system or equivalent
  • Procedure development and review
  • Training of Pharmacy staff

  • Experience using pharmacy stock management systems (CMM)
