Job summary

Barts Health NHS Trust is one of the largest providers Renal Services in the UK with over 2000 patients on Renal Replacement Therapy along side a very large CKD population. The new Royal London Hospital serves as the Transplant centre for several units in Essex and serves as the hub for renal services in Northeast London.

The Renal Unit at the Royal London Hospital is housed on the purposed built 9th floor of the new building which includes its own outpatients' clinic area, Renal Assessment Unit, a 70-station dialysis unit and a 62 bedded ward shared with Urology which includes a renal HDU and a Renal Surgery Bay.

The Department has an active and growing transplant program, performing around 160 Kidney transplant a year including ABO incompatible transplants. We provide vascular and peritoneal access service for a dialysis population of over 1100. Its academic profile is amongst the highest in the UK for both clinical and translational research.

Main duties of the job

This are 2 posts for Locum Consultant in renal transplant and vascular access surgery to mainly support the vascular access program. The appointees will join a team of 6 full time equivalent Transplant surgeons and 1 Associate Specialist.

The new postholder will be expected to participate in all surgical and OPD activities related to transplant surgery and vascular access surgery, furthermore they are expected to be part of the Transplant Surgery on call service at the Royal London Hospital on a 1:7 on call rota.

Applicants must have experience in Renal Transplant and Renal failure surgery and been able to show evidence of working independently during on call commitments (for example, been on a Locum Consultant post).
