We currently have an exciting opportunity for a new post of Clinical Psychologist working with the paediatric oncology and haematology multidisciplinary teams at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. The post will be based within the paediatric liaison team, which is a multidisciplinary team supporting the mental health needs of young people with physical health conditions under the care of the Royal London.The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment and psychological intervention to children and their families who are under the care of the oncology and haematology teams as well as offering specialist advice and consultation on the children and young peoples' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and contributing to psychologically informed care as part of the MDT. The post will also include liaison with psychology colleagues at other shared care centres and offering input to families who are both inpatient and in the community.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has excellent skills incommunication, and some experience in paediatrics or physical health, anenthusiasm for multidisciplinary work and an interest in developing effective, innovative, accessible and efficient services with good quality outcomes for children, young people and families. We would also encourage applications from current trainee clinical psychologists interested in a preceptorship band 7 to 8a development post, with experience in relevant fields.
Main duties of the job
To provide a psychological service for children and young people under the care of oncology and haematology teams at the Royal London Hospital. The post will involve working as part of the oncology and haematology MDT, offering psychological assessment and intervention to children, young people and their families. The post also sits within the paediatric liaison team, a multidisciplinary team, offering psychological and mental health assessment and support to children and young people with both chronic and acute physical health conditions under the care of the Royal London Hospital. The post holder may be require to offer supervision to band 7 psychologists, trainee and assistant psychologists.The post holder will need to develop good working relationships and, at times, offer shared care with psychological services at shared care oncology centres, mainly UCLH and GOSH.
The post holder will also work with the wider MDT through consultation, teaching and training to support the delivery of psychologically informed care to all children and young people with cancer and haematology conditions and develop group interventions for families and young people.The post holder will also contribute to audit and quality improvement projects.The post is part of a wider investment in sickle cell services and will be supported by psychological colleagues in the paediatric liaison team at the Royal London Hospital.
