Job summary
An exciting opportunity has come up within the East and SouthEast London (ESEL) Pathology Network, for an enthusiastic Assistant Transfusion Practitioner at The Royal London Hospital who shares our vision of a high-quality transfusion service.
Previous experience or knowledge of the blood transfusion process is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided for the right candidate.
The post holder will assist and support site-based Specialist TransfusionPractitioners in the provision of efficient and effective service by co-ordinating key administrative functions to ensure effective service to the highest possible standard.
The post holder will be responsible for monitoring closely the traceability of all issued units daily and will assist the clinical departments with the return of all traceability labels to the blood transfusion laboratory in a timely fashion.
The post holder will be responsible for traceability data entry & extraction and will support in the production of performance / compliance reports.In addition, this role will assist and will support the Specialist TransfusionPractitioners, as instructed, in writing minutes of meetings held at respective sites.
Main duties of the job
o To be responsible for data entry, to support with the production ofperformance / compliance reports, managing transfusion training andcompetency records and access to blood fridges by trained staff by usingspecific laboratory software.o To support with data entry for Blood stock managemento To monitor closely the traceability of all issued units on a daily basis and to assist the clinical departments with the return of all traceability labels to the blood transfusion laboratory in a timely fashion.o To have good IT skills to use the laboratory information management system and Microsoft Office software (Excel, word, Access and PowerPoint)o To support the site Specialist Transfusion Practitioners, as instructed, inwriting minutes of meetings held at respective sites.o To assist and support the Transfusion Practitioners, as instructed, inundertaking clinical audits (local and national), preparing resources for training and assessment of clinical staff, gathering information for investigation ofclinical incidents, monitoring / follow up of blood and blood product wastage, transfusion related non-compliances and to assist in blood fridge training and related competency assessments.
