Job summary

If you are a Neonatal Nurse and are looking for an exciting career working with surgical and medical Neonates and the Neonatal Transport Service as a trainee ANNP, then come and join our wonderful teams at the Royal London Hospital Neonatal Unit and Transport teams.

The Neonatal teams in both services are seeking to appoint a trainee ANNP to join our friendly, hard -working Neonatal Teams.

There is also an exciting opportunity for the suitable person to continue to help develop the SCBU and Transitional Care at RLH to be nurse led.

There is time set aside for developing within and alongside the medical and neonatal nursing team with input from the Consultant team. There is an educational programme provided by QMUL and will be state of the art training.

The Neonatal Unit at The Royal London (London Borough of Tower Hamlets), is a level 3 Tertiary neonates with both medical and surgical cots, and ophthalmology services (nurse led in conjunction with the Opthalmology Team).

There is time set aside for teaching and your own professional development. You will be encouraged to explore an area of particular interest to you, as well as participate in clinical governance, audit, guidelines, and research.

The applicant needs to be flexible in your approach to working on the unit and other sites and committed to provide excellent neonatal care.

Clinical Practice Level & balancing time

The career framework for health places the "nurse practitioner" at level 7, with an 80:20 split ratio of clinical practice: leadership, education & research. To apply for a qualified ANNP role you will need to have completed a nationally recognised Higher Education Institution (HEI) honours degree qualification.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner roles require education to master's level at a nationally recognised HEI. Nurse Practitioners remain highly qualified & skilled members of the nursing team & are part of the continuum of autonomous clinical skill development. It also reflects the evolution of advanced clinical roles, nursing roles & education. Health Education England (2017 recognise Advanced Clinical Practice at master's level. Essential

  • Registered with NMC as RN Adult - RN Child, RM.
  • Minimum of an honour's degree and or relevant experience and demonstrable competencies across all Advanced Level Nursing Practice competency domains. (RCN 2018)
  • Willingness to take on master's level educational programmes.
  • Other skill development at university or local based training relevant to the area of clinical expertise in a NICU.
  • Holds a current Neonatal Intensive Care Course qualification.
  • Assessing and mentoring qualification.
  • Ability to complete a competency-based skill document for intensive care.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of on-going, dynamic continuous professional development with demonstrable clinical competencies, relevant to the area and role of Neonatal Intensive Care
  • NLS is essential but would see ARNI training as desirable.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable evidence/ portfolio of embedding trainee role into clinical practice.
  • NICU clinical skills updated for the specialist area e.g. advanced assessment module.
  • Attendance on clinical leadership programme
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent
  • Registered qualification with the NMC as a non-medical prescriber (independent prescriber) and actively practicing or willing to undertake this training.
  • Advanced communication training

  • Can articulate a personal philosophy of nursing and the role of the ANNP with advanced clinical skills.
