Job summary
Barts Health is looking for a fixed term (12 months) Consultant Urological Surgeon who will be predominantly based at the Royal London Hospital site with responsibilities across the Trust hospitals sites.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence and the ability to deliver effective care. There is an expectation that the surgeon will develop a subspecialty interest. He/she will need to agree levels of activity and throughput with the Clinical Director of Urology.
The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the Trust's policy on Maintaining Medical Excellence and to be committed to maintaining their standard of performance by keeping their knowledge and skills up to date.
Key duties will include supervising and running outpatient clinics, operating lists and care for patients on ward in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward nurses and specialist nursing teams.
The post will be based at the Royal London Hospital; however the post-holder will be required to work at other Barts Health sites.
You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and be on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCST.

Main duties of the job
- Independent running of Lithotripsy Suite
- To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient, elective and non-elective surgical urological service
- To contribute to the development and provision of a comprehensive urological surgical service at Barts Health NHS Trust
- To provide evidence based care for all inpatients and outpatients
- To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the relevant NHS guidance and the Care Quality Commission, including the 18 weeks waiting time standard
- To participate fully in the management of the department and to liaise closely with the lead clinician, service manager, general manager and clinical service group director
- The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances
- To support other specialities (e.g. Gynaecology, Gynaecology Oncology, Colorectal and Trauma services) across the site
- To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work, working particularly closely and regularly with existing post-holders
