Job summary

To be part of a team of medical device trainers supporting Barts Health NHS Trust.

This role would suit a professionally registered nurse, operating department practitioner, healthcare scientist or other allied healthcare professional with a strong experiential background in the use of medical devices in healthcare delivery and a good understanding of medical device issues from the perspectives of clinical colleagues, patients and carers. The post holder should have demonstrable passion for quality and safety in healthcare provision.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the optimal and safe application and use of medical devices across the Trust, working closely with the Trust's diverse range of clinical services and clinical professionals.

As part of your career development you will be offered in-house and formal manufacturers' training courses.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of Clinical Engineering's Medical Device Training Team the post holder will play an essential role in the development, implementation and continued improvement of comprehensive systems of competency management that consistently ensure safe and optimal use of medical devices throughout Barts Health Trust NHS Trust. Principal duties will include needs assessment, planning and delivery of competency-based training - together with the authorisation and competency records of medical device users and local advanced trainers/ assessors.

The post holder will additionally be a source of authoritative advice for clinical, technical and managerial staff on medical device usage, upkeep and safety issues. They may also support strategic planning, product evaluation, safety action and incident investigation activities relating to medical devices.

The Medical Device Training Team is a principal component of Clinical Engineering's multi-disciplinary integrated medical devices safety service

, offering a broad range of expert support across and beyond the Trust and reports to the Trust Medical Device Group

  • oDegree in or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.

Desirable

  • Project management qualification (Prince2)
  • NAMDET Membership (National Association of Medical Device Educators & Trainers)

Experience

  • oExperience of working in a clinical environment in a variety of healthcare settings
  • oCurrently band 6 level as a minimum (in an area utilising frequent use and variety medical devices)
  • oExperience of working within a Quality Management System and evidence of active participation in continuous improvement.
  • oExperience in mentorship, teaching and delivering presentations and undertaking audits

  • Experience in Medical device evaluation.
