Job summary

Clinical Engineering is a dynamic and active part of the Department of Clinical Physics. We provide whole life equipment management services for the range of portable medical equipment in use across the Trust and external organisations who purchase our services. We have over 50 members of staff based in workshops across our five main sites. We are actively pursuing plans for growth, having demonstrated the value for money we provide to our patients and customers.

This is an exciting post for our very vulnerable patient groups and therefore are looking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Specialist Lead Clinical Technologist to be part of Clinical Engineering supporting and maintaining a variety of clinical equipment used by Neonatal ICU and Neonatal Transport Service. This post will be based at the Royal London Hospital. As a successful candidate, you will hold a degree in Engineering or Physical Science and have an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of formal learning and experience. You will have knowledge and experience of providing front line customer service and will have experience of working in a clinical environment.

You will be required to work to high standards of safety and accountability and will be involved in carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance on specialist equipment used by NICU and NTS. Close communication is always required with Clinical engineering and the Clinical/Medical teams.

Main duties of the job

To ensure that the Specialist Lead Clinical Technologist for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Neonatal Transfer Service has regularly maintained, monitored, safe and functional equipment. To ensure good communication is kept within the department and with Clinical Engineering and Medical Physics. To ensure that all audits, PPM's, database and the like are regularly maintained and updated.

To ensure risks are identified and escalated and that good governance is practised at all times.

To ensure that there is an appropriate and regularly monitored planned preventative maintenance programme for NICU and NTS.

To ensure that high risk items are prioritised and that levels of compliance with the planned programme are readily available.

To manage the information on the medical equipment management database for the site, ensuring that records are accurate and up to date, to provide accurate management information and to support service planning and delivery.

To ensure that both customer-facing and internal work systems and processes related to own work are agreed, implemented, monitored, and improved, in line with the requirements of the departmental ISO9001 quality management system.

To ensure that all staff are supported and developed by agreeing clear objectives and training needs through the Trust's appraisal system.
