Job summary
We are looking for a proactive, motivated, and energetic pharmacist to provide specialist pharmacy service to our busy but friendly adult critical care unit (ACCU) and high dependency Unit which now comprises 56 beds. Royal London Hospital is a major trauma centre where you will be exposed to specialties such as trauma, neurosurgery,infectious diseases,nephrology, hepatology, HIV medicines, neurology, vascular, hepatobiliary, endocrine, and stroke.
The successful candidate will provide expert pharmaceutical advice in complex cases as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) as well as supporting the surgery team when needed in covering wards. You will get an opportunity to improve clinical skills and get hands on experience, supporting the senior pharmacists in writing guidelines, line management, training responsibilities, audits, and completing governance & finance reports.
You must possess the resilience, enthusiasm, flexibility and influencing skills to deliver the safest care to our patients. You will be expected to work in enclosed collaboration with our medical, nursing, and pharmacy colleagues.
We currently have electronic prescribing in place and having good IT skills as well as independent prescribing (IP) or working towards IP is extremely desirable. Previous experience of working in a critical care or high dependency unit setting and as part of an MDT is also essential. You will be supported to further develop your skills in this job.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as a Specialist Pharmacist in Critical Care and high dependency Unit to deliver patient focused, quality care, based primarily at the Royal London Hospital. They will also support by providing specialist pharmacist input to the surgical wards as and when the service is needed.
To promote the responsible, safe, and cost-effective prescribing of medicines within Critical Care and high dependency unit to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and improve medicines safety. The post holder will be supporting the Lead Clinical Pharmacist, Critical Care in leading a team of staff in the delivery of high quality clinical, professional, and technical pharmacy service to the speciality.
