Job summary
We are looking for a third genetic counsellor to join our Inherited Cardiovascular Disease Service at St. Bartholomew's Hospital. We are interested in a candidate who has prior experience in cardiac genetics, but this is not essential.
We will be looking for someone who can work closely and along with a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent care to a cohort of patients with complex medical needs. The post holder should be able to work autonomously and manage their own caseload of patients.
As one of the country's leading specialist cardiac centres it is crucial to ensure that patients and their families receive genetic counselling in a timely and appropriate manner.
Therefore, an applicant with excellent:

Will be essential to help support patients and their families through their diagnostic pathway.
The candidate should be familiar with providing a tailored, patient centred approach to a diverse community of patients.
The successful candidate will be expected to work closely along with regional and specialist genetic counsellors from other Trusts as well as participate in local multi-disciplinary team meetings and journal clubs.

Main duties of the job
The aim of the service is to provide genetic counselling for cardiovascular conditions, with a primary focus on inherited cardiomyopathies. This includes providing appropriate testing for patients and their relatives adhering to national testing criteria. Applicants are expected to contribute to the development of cardiac genetics through participation in research studies.
The post holder must be able to tailor each session in a patient centred manner; conducting the session to the patient's the level of understanding, mindful of family implications, and planning follow up management and risk. This approach can extend beyond the immediate session and the applicant is expected to act as an advocate and provide support where required.
