Job summary
We are looking for a Band 6 family liaison nurse to join our Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU). The Family Liaison Nurse will work closely with the clinical teams, providing practical and psychological support to family members as well as to staff on critical care unit.
The ACCU at St Bartholomew's hospital is currently funded for 53 beds, spread across four clinical areas, bringing together a wide range of expertise in clinical care, research, and education for cardiovascular and complex cancer conditions.
St Bartholomew's is one of the busiest cardiothoracic centres in the UK and one of the UK's leading providers of care and treatment for people with cancer. The hospital is a referral centre for many surgeries, including complex aortovascular and serves both our local population and national referrals. The ACCU has a well-established ECMO program providing respiratory and cardiac support alongside our recently introduced cardiogenic pathway.
Applicants should have significant critical care experience as a band 6 or Senior band 5 nurse and be able to demonstrate the ability and desire to support patients and their families during their stay in critical care. Enthusiasm and a flexible approach to working with a large multi-professional team are essential for the role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be supported by the Matron and the wider senior nursing and medical teams. We encourage and promote development in the role, there is opportunity to access a wide range of professional and personal development courses
Provide effective nursing leadership, expertise, advice and psychological support to families on intensive care to ensure the provision of high-quality care and information to patients and families.
Build and maintain strong links with all clinical teams including ACCU doctors, AHP's, Psychology team and bedside nursing staff
Facilitate sharing of ideas, information and feedback in order to empower patients, family and members of the multidisciplinary team.
Promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient and family centred care through research and evidence-based practice.
To support the Senior Nursing team in developing the service and providing support and motivation to the team
