Job summary
This post is designed to augment the 24/7 consultant led Emergency service offered by Bart's Health at the Royal London Hospital. The Hospital is a London teaching hospital, a Major Trauma Centre, a Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and is the District General Hospital for Tower Hamlets. The combined Urgent Care and Emergency service sees in excess of 210,000 new patients per annum. The emergency department is part of the Barts Health Emergency Medicine Network.
The Emergency Medicine Service sits in the Division of Emergency Care and Trauma. The team is committed to a high level of consultant input to the front line care of patients, providing senior decision maker input throughout the patient journey for minor and moderate cases and direct consultant led care for the most critically unwell patients.
Main duties of the job
The job has been structured to ensure a variety of clinical duties are available. The department hosts doctors in training, clinical practitioners, nurses in development and students from across, medicine, nursing and physician associate studies. All consultants take part in the training and development of all groups. The department is dedicated to providing high quality and innovative training and development opportunities.
This is a 10 PA job plan ED Locum Consultant post for 9 months to cover Maternity Leave.

- MB ChB or equivalent
- FCEM or Equivalent ('equivalence' must be confirmed by GMC by the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee)
- Completion of Specialist training in Emergency Medicine or within 6 months of CCT or equivalent
- ALS, ATLS, APLS and MIMMS provider or equivalent
Desirable
- BSc/MSc
- MRCP or equivalent additional higher qualification
- Instructor status in more than one course
- Evidence of appropriate Faculty Development towards Educational Supervision
Experience
Essential
- Appropriate for level of experience
- Ability to manage on-going medical and surgical critical care in the resuscitation room.
