Job summary
St Bartholomew's Hospital is recruiting an experienced critical care nurse to join our nurse leadership team as matron. This is an exciting time of positive change as we have recently celebrated our 900 year anniversary and look forward to critical care service expansion and development.
Applicants should have extensive nurse leadership experience in a large adult critical care unit and be able to demonstrate clinical credibility. The ability to provide visible clinical leadership, inspire others and demonstrate compassionate leadership is essential for the role.
The adult critical care unit (ACCU) at St Bartholomew's hospital is currently funded for 53 beds (40 x Level 3 & 13 x Level 2) with expansion plans to support our elective activity in the next 12 months. The ACCU is spread across four clinical areas, bringing together a wide range of expertise in clinical care, research, and education for cardiovascular and complex cancer conditions.
The hospital is one of the busiest cardiothoracic centres in the UK, performing many surgeries including complex aortovascular and serves both our local population and national referrals. The ACCU has a well-established ECMO program providing respiratory and cardiac support alongside our recently introduced cardiogenic pathway
Main duties of the job
Professional development for all our team remains a key priority. The successful applicant will be supported in the role by ACCU Matron peers, Senior Nurse and the Associate Director for Nursing. There is access to a wide range of leadership and clinical development opportunities, both within the Trust, the North East London Adult Critical Care Network and with partner education institutes. We have successfully introduced clinical academic pathways within critical care, actively encourage research and have the support of our Director of Research and Innovation.
The role will also contribute to the site nursing leadership team with the opportunity to undertake site wide duties and responsibilities.
Main duties of the role:
Provide supportive and clear objectives to the post holders direct line reporters.
Deliver on service key performance indicators:
- Quality & safety framework
- Clinical strategy
- Financial objectives
- Strategy for education & research
Deliver and actively contribute to the key performance indicators relates to the sites "safe and compassionate" quality improvement plans, this includes local and site wide quality improvements work streams.
