Job summary
The principal aim for this post is to offer the opportunity for a senior registrar to become clinical trials active prior to completing training, enabling them to continue to be trials active upon accepting a consultant appointment. The appointee will increase the number of participants recruited into haematology trials at Barts Health through a targeted "personal" portfolio of 3 or 4 studies to be agreed on upon appointment. They will become involved in the set-up process and come to understand the on-going recruitment and data returning requirements. It will be important to also engage in tracking of departmental funds attached to study recruitment. The appointee will be expected to attend at least 50% of the local Haematology Specialty group meetings and will be invited on a rotational basis to attend the national specialty group meeting. During the OOPE, the individual will be a research "champion" for his/her peers in the local training region of North Thames. This will involve organisation of engagement events for education about clinical trials, contributing to dissemination of notable trials information and looking for novel ways to increase research awareness within their peer group. There will be additional, structured training opportunities to supplement the experiential clinical trials training.
Main duties of the job
To be an active member of the Clinical Haematology Research department and help deliver the departmental mission of excellence in clinical care, teaching and research.
Being part of the team for providing a specialist research trials for the patients referred in to the department in line with Trust and NIHR targets, including performing all administrative duties associated with patient care.
To take ownership of delegated trails and carry out all delegated responsibilities for study procedures
To learn key principals of Good clinical practice and set up / management of trials according to GCP.
Work in conjunction, as Sub-investigator, with the Principal Investigators of the studies and be available to take over a study and /or procedures as required by the trial.
To maintain good ICH GCP compliance with all research activities and ensure that GCP training is up to date
To attend Investigators meetings, Site Initiation Visit, site selection visits for all new trials and to ensure all personal trial documentation is current.

The specialty group aims to recruit at least one registrar from each of the 15 regions of England to take up the position of NIHR specialty trainee lead for haematology research. This appointment aims to deliver this goal for our region and will be a parallel appointment to an additional appointment in the North of the North Thames region (UCLH based)
There may be the need to do ad hoc clinics as needed but this will be agreed with the appointee based on their special interests to align with their future consultant career pathway. This can be discussed with Dr Hart.
Note that many activities do not need to be performed on site and we encourage working from home where possible. Remote access to the Trust systems can be provided. Patient trial work will need to be on site and the post holder will cover some consultant leave.
