Job summary
This is a new associate specialist / senior speciality doctor post based within The Dental Hospital site at Whitechapel. The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for Oral Medicine patients and to provide and develop clinical services for Barts Health NHS Trust patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having some commitment to the teaching and training of junior staff.
Major areas of Oral Medicine at RLH Hospital include out-patient services and contributing to the management of in patients when requested by medical teams. It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the delivery of aspects of these services depending upon their interests and experience.
Main duties of the job
Together with the other members of the Oral medicine Team, to provide a service for out- patients. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department.
Provide advice and care for in patients at BH NHS Trust when asked for by Medical specialities
Clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant
To contribute to clinical governance initiatives.
To contribute to the Audit Programme.
To conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for Oral Medicine services.
To exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty. This will include fostering and developing projects focused towards these ends and ensuring that the momentum of post qualification professional education and other appropriate training is
To be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. To undertake annual training/updates in infection prevention and control.
To be accountable for implementation of the Code of Practice within own department/area of responsibility.
To prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence based practice and maintaining patient safety.
