Job summary
This 12 month post is a senior fellowship for anaesthetists with at least three years anaesthetic training. The fellowship is split 40% Simulation and education, 60% anaesthesia. The post includes a fully funded PG Cert in Medical Education at QMUL over the 12 month post.

The education and simulation component is based in the Simulation Centre at the Royal London site. The centre provides innovative courses and training for all hospital staff groups. The team also support in situ simulation within the hospital. The fellow would join the faculty and be involved in the delivery and development of this activity.An tier of senior clinical fellows is being recruited to manage the increase in acuity and out of hours work at the Royal London Hospital (RLH). Out of hours this is focused on supporting the increasing numbers and complexity of cases on labour ward and the increase in Mechanical Thrombectomy provision at RLH. The on calls will reflect this service need and be splitbetween a second on call for labour ward and providing cover for the mechanical thrombectomy service. All daytime work, including at weekends, will be in the main operating theatres. The fellows will also be facilitating the surgical strategy, moving high acuity surgery to RLH. During the daytime they will undertake some solo mentored lists with the rest of the time dedicated to career development.
Main duties of the job
The post offers the opportunity for a senior clinical fellow to obtain advanced competencies in one of a number of surgical specialties undertaken at RLH (eg neuro, complex obstetrics, perioperative medicine and high risk preassessment, regional anaesthesia, traumaanaesthesia major abdominal surgery) or to develop their CV by undertaking QI projects or research. In addition, each successful candidate will have a dedicated educational supervisor to support their career goals.Out of hours they will work with a team of an anaesthetic core trainee, an obstetric anaesthetic registrar, a paediatric anaesthetic registrar and a senior anaesthetic registrar.The Department of Anaesthesia provides a service for all surgical specialities within Bart's Health and isinvolved in many exciting initiatives.Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council's Specialist Register.
