Job summary

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Senior Clinical Fellow to join our Colorectal Surgery team at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. This 1-year post will be suitable for trainees at specialist registrar level, peri-CCT trainees or candidates aiming for post-CCT experience focusing on pelvic floor disorders, complex benign conditions and robotic surgery.

The 'Colorectal Surgery and Pelvic Floor Services' at the Royal London Hospital (RLH) is part of the department of general surgery, which also has specialist divisions of HPB surgery and upper GI surgery. At the Royal London Hospital there are 6- substantive full- and part-time consultant colorectal surgeons (1 Queen Mary University of London academic appointment) with others covering surgery at RLH from other sites in specific areas such as colorectal cancer.

Main duties of the job

The Royal London hospital is the designated site for the Barts health NHS trusts 'complex abdominal and pelvic surgery' unit and the colorectal unit will play a key role in this exciting development offering significant training opportunities for the post holder. The colorectal unit also undertakes intestinal failure surgery, complex, multi-disciplinary abdominal and pelvic surgery for IBD, recurrent pelvic cancer, cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC. The hospital is a busy major trauma centre and offers exposure to a case mix of traumatic abdominal and perineal injuries. The appointee will take part in the General Surgery oncall rota. In addition to clinical training, the post provides opportunities for research (jointly with academics at QMUL) and teaching. Mentoring and personal development opportunities for the fellows are a priority for the colorectal unit and Barts Health NHS Trust.
