We are currently looking for a dynamic, motivated senior research manager to ensure the smooth running, progress and evolution of the Compassionate Stem Cell Unit and the regenerative medicine research programme at Barts Heart Centre (based in the department of interventional cardiology). The Compassionate Stem Cell Unit is the UK's first and only stem cell treatment programme for heart failure patients. This is an exciting role managing a team and research programme at the forefront of regenerative medicine for cardiovascular disease.As an autonomous practitioner, they will manage all aspects of the Compassionate Treatment Unit and Regenerative Medicine Research Programme. Other interventional research (i.e. devices) may be part of the role as required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will practice at an advanced level, capable of delivering all aspects of clinical trials (including design, set-up, database creation/ management, financial management and recruitment/delivery), research grant applications (e.g., costings) and research programme delivery (e.g., engagement with regulators and academic/clinical and industrial collaborators). The post holder will lead by example, providing expert clinical and research knowledge to the multi-professional team.

They must demonstrate strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, be computer literate, flexible and be able to manage their own time effectively in order to project manage the portfolio, Trust processes and Compassionate team activity. You must have had significant research experience Band 7 level, and have had experience of delivering all aspects of clinical trials and the financial management of projects.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in health related or biomedical science or with equivalent experience. Registered nurses must be in possession or working towards a degree.
  • Teaching / Mentorship course or equivalent
  • Research qualification
  • Up to date GCP certificate

Desirable

  • Post grad degree in clinical trials, epidemiology, study design or similar clinical trial related area

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in all aspects of clinical research, including set up, coordination, administration, delivery, monitoring, and data management.
  • Experience of coordinating MHRA regulated clinical trials involving Investigational Medicinal Products
  • Awareness and involvement in audit
  • Demonstrate an understanding of national research networks

  • Experience of line management and leading others
