Job summary
Barts Health NHST Trust are looking for a locum consultant 8 PA post to join a current body of twelve substantive and four locum Consultant posts within the Plastic Surgery Department. We have a well-established plastic surgery unit which serves numerous spokes from the main base at the Royal London Hospital. This post will be focused on our elective scars, paediatric hands, and microsurgery.
The Royal London Hospital is the primary location with weekly clinic and operating. Experience working within an MTC environment and microsurgery will be essential as the role is also on the on-call for plastic surgery. The new appointee will be expected to function as an integral member of the trauma multi-disciplinary team based at based at Barts Health as well as the elective team. During the course of the pandemic, the team have been working at many sites both NHS and independent and the appointee may be expected to work on these sites to deliver care.

Main duties of the job
General Duties
- Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
- Leadership, development and organisation of the services in their charge in line with the Trusts' Business Plans. Liaison and communication with the Lead Clinician for the Directorate, the General Manager, and other members of the team.
- Development of their own interests within the specialty, including active participation in research programs.
- Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training including the approval and monitoring of on calls and locum appointments.
Duties of the post
- To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient surgical service.
- To provide evidence-based care for all inpatients and outpatients.
- To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the NHS plan and local purchaser contracts.
- To participate in the plastic surgery on call rota for the Trust, in the first instance this will be the Royal London.
- The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. There is also a requirement to cover on call in circumstances of unexpected leave and sick leave.
- The duties are not definite and may be changed in accordance with needs of the service requiring the post holder to be co-operative and flexible.
