Job summary

We are a department of 9 theatres in 2 different sites with 2 more theatres planning to open soon within the hospital complex:

  • A standalone Centre of Excellence Orthopaedic Unit (BHOC) with 4 operating theatres and a recovery unit in Gateway Surgical Centre
  • Maternity Services and Main Theatres in the main hospital building with 5 operating theatres and a recovery unit have come together to provide day surgery cases, emergency procedures and specialist obstetric care.

We are seeking to recruit highly motivated enthusiastic Band 2 health care support staff who is passionate about providing top-quality, first-class patient care as is expected from our Trust WeCare Values

Main duties of the job

As a member of a multi-disciplinary Theatre team, you will participate in planning, delivering and evaluating the highest possible level of peri-operative care to patients; contributing to overall effectiveness of the department.

  1. Working within the team, to support the patient comfort, dignity and always having special regard to issues of patient confidentiality
  2. To carry out care, delegated from professionally qualified staff, requiring a wide technical ability, numeracy, and accuracy as well as a significant level of interpersonal skills
  3. Following appropriate training, assist in the provision of care to patients pre, intra and post operatively, supporting clinical theatre staff, supervised by a qualified practitioner
  4. Communicate effectively with patients, service users, visitors, and relatives, always maintaining a helpful and courteous manner
  5. To undertake the movement of patients to and from the department by trolley, bed or walking, supporting the smooth and efficient flow of patients
  6. Following training and assessed as competent, to assist qualified staff in the taking and recording of temperature, pulse and blood pressure, as required.
