Job summary
A member of the multidisciplinary team, who with support of the neonatal nursing staff, will provide individualised, family-centred care to babies in preparation for discharge home from the special care nursery.
Main duties of the job
The Neonatal service at Newham University Hospital aims to provide a high quality, safe, family-centred environment, which meets the holistic needs of infants and their families. It is one of three neonatal units within Barts health trust and is part of the North East North Central London Neonatal Network. It is a Level 2 unit providing care for babies born at 27 weeks and above. Our capacity is for 23 cots, with 2 intensive care cot, 4 high dependency and 17 special care costs divided into 6 nurseries (Bays). There are also 3 Transitional Care bedrooms where parents can stay with their baby before they are discharged home.
We are a friendly, dynamic and supportive unit where you will have the privilege of caring for premature and sick babies who require special care. You will work in partnership with parents as we adopt a "Family Integrated Care" ethos on our unit. You will guide and advise parents as they learn to look after their babies independently throughout their journey in NICU, TCR (Transitional Care Room) and home, providing expertise in breast feeding, parent craft and discharge planning. To apply you will need to have an NNEB diploma or NVQ level 3 in Early Years, care and education, and have experience in caring for babies ideally in a hospital setting. The successful candidate will have continuous training and support to increase their skills and knowledge enabling them to take care of these babies independently.
