Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised dietitian who is interested and motivated to work independently within the renal dietetic speciality. This role offers the opportunity to combine working with people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the outpatient setting whilst maintaining inpatient skills managing a renal and urology caseload.

Barts Health Renal Service is a leading specialist centre for the management of patients with CKD from North East London and Essex. The renal dietetic team are integral to the Renal Service and provide dietetic care to low clearance, dialysis and transplant patients.

The main work location is the Royal London Hospital, with a maximum of one day a week at your haemodialysis (HD) unit. Our HD units are located in East London and currently the unit for this post is at Whipps Cross Hospital, Leytonstone. You will work closely with the lead HD consultant, nurses and other members of MDT to provide excellent care. This affords the opportunity to build rewarding working relationships with your patients.

The remainder of the caseload will rotate between inpatient work, including renal HDU and our outpatient clinics, predominately pre-dialysis.

As a team we regularly undertake service improvement and audit linked to our team objectives. You will be encouraged to utilise your audit skills to evaluate your practice, identifying areas to improve and lead on these changes, with excellent support from the dietetic and renal teams.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist clinical dietetic service at Band 6 level to patients cared for by the Bart's Health Renal Services and, as required, to patients on the general acute inpatient wards. This will include renal outpatients: pre-dialysis, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and transplant patients. To provide consultations via the telephone, video, or face to face (in clinic or whilst on dialysis) if indicated. Dialysis units are located at: The Royal London Hospital, Newham University Hospital, Queen's Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital and King George's Hospital; additional units may be opened in the future.

To function as an integral member of the clinical team, providing specialist dietetic care and contributing to patient outcomes. To continually evaluate and improve the service by undertaking audit and active research.
