Main duties of the job

The Royal London Hospital Dermatology Department has a large, dedicated outpatient department which is 'state of the art'. There are 4 operating theatres, day treatment, phototherapy, dressing and treatment areas, 10 consulting rooms and ample office and waiting area space. Paediatric Dermatology clinics take place in Paediatric Department. The Department has its own nursing staff with a Sister-in-Charge. The Department runs its own patch testing service. The Department has its own secretaries and clerical staff. As well as general Dermatology clinics there are specialist clinics for treatment of vulval disorders, renal and immunosuppressed patients, Paediatric dermatology and Psychodermatology. The Academic department of Dermatology is large busy and successful. The research programme covers keratinocyte culture, monoclonal antibodies, keratinocyte grafting, work on human papilloma virus and a skin cancer programme. There are special relationships with the Department of Pathology with whom a session is held once a week. There is a half-day Departmental meeting twice monthly which is both academic and administrative. Outside Consultants attend the activities which include review of problem patients, regional audit, speakers, an evidence-based journal club and review of colour slide records of recent patients.
