Job summary

The Woodlands Day Unit is expanding its nursing team. We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a nurse looking to develop their experience by working at the Woodlands Day unit.

The Day unit treats patients with malignant and non-malignant haematology conditions and offer supportive treatments to a wider group of Oncology patients .

Treatments include Intravenous and Oral Systemic Anti-Cancer treatments ,Blood products ,hormone injections ,CVC line care , IV Infusions . We also deliver intravenous therapies to Rheumatology and Gastroenterology patients .

You will ideally have at least 18 months post registration experience ,venepuncture and cannulation skills be IV competent and have a keen interest in Haematology/Oncology.

As part of Barts Health Chemotherapy service the woodlands team can access the training and development opportunities provided across the Trust. We have a strong and diverse nursing team which can support the development of juniors. . Our nurses are supported to work autonomously, as required in day care units. Band 5 nurses are given the opportunity to attend the Chemotherapy Course run at St Bartholomew's Hospital and to gain chemotherapy accreditation on completion of the London Chemotherapy Passport. All our new nurses are supported by the whole team, to achieve objectives and competencies.

Main duties of the job

Our nurses work 4x shifts per week -(4 x 9.5 hr shifts),

The unit is open Monday Tuesday, closed Wednesday and open Thursday ,Friday. We are able to offer posts to both full time and part time staff

The aim of this post is to support the development of a junior cancer nurse to develop a wide range of skills, and provide cancer care in a day care setting. The post holder will provide direct care to oncology and haemato-oncology patients who are receiving either oncological treatment or supportive care. Whilst under the supervision of senior colleagues whilst acquiring and developing the specialist skills and knowledge to meet the needs of this patient group.
