Job summary

We are looking for and Divisional Director of Operations to join our team at the Royal London Hospital.

The surgery division is the largest and most complex Division in one of the largest and most complex Trusts in the country. This is both a challenging and very exciting place to work.

You will be operationally responsible for the service portfolio as well as providing division-wide leadership on specific issues. You will therefore need sophisticated performance management skills coupled with an understanding and appreciation of complex clinical pathways. You will also head up a range of service development initiatives directly as well as working with and through your teams, colleagues and peers to deliver improvement across the division, site and trust.

Your ability to engage and lead teams through change and act as an expert negotiator will be vital. You will deliver a selection of productivity schemes and therefore will have strong business management skills coupled with sound financial knowledge.

We need an intellectually flexible, highly analytical and confident colleague to challenge the status quo while building excellent working relationships that quickly enable you to become a trusted and credible leader across all staff groups. You will be focused on outcomes and motivated by your drive to deliver the highest quality care while ensuring the best possible patient experience.

Main duties of the job

The Divisional Director of Operations is responsible for ensuring the provision of high-quality patient services within the Surgery, Perioperative Medicine, Adult Critical Care and Dental Division that are clinically sound, delivered cost effectively and meet the Trust's priorities and performance targets.The role of the Divisional Director of Operations (DDOP) is to provide strong local leadership to the Division and to balance strategic plans with operational needs and robust delivery.The DDOP will provide strategic leadership at divisional level, ensure that there are appropriate systems and processes within the Division to enable staff to deliver good quality clinical care and drive forward the service improvement agenda to achieve efficiency gains and improve the operational effectiveness of the Division
