Job summary

ITU at Newham University Hospital is an 12 bedded critical care unit which cares for level 2 and level 3 patients; we are looking for a full time health care assistant to join our busy and dynamic multi-disciplinary team.

The applicant must be a self-motivated person to join our team of staff, and be able to work with minimal supervision once trained. Experience in an acute hospital setting is essential.

Main duties of the job

The Nursing Assistant works under the direction or supervision of qualified nurses/midwives to implement care planned by Registered Professionals. The Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) is proactive in monitoring and anticipating patients' needs within the boundaries of the Job Description

  1. Ensure effective communication with all staff, patients, and relatives, maintaining confidentiality at all time
  2. Provide recreational and conversational support for patients and carers
  3. Assist in the reception of new patients and visitors, orienting them around the department when required
  4. Assist the registered nurse with the support of people in distress, showing compassion
  5. Ensure that all relevant information is relayed to nursing staff in a timely manner
  6. Assist in routine clerical duties, such as receiving calls/messages and relaying messages in a timely and appropriate manner, retrieving/filing patients notes and X-Rays, collection of mail and use of the Care Record Service(CRS
