Job summary

An opportunity has arisen at Barts Health NHS Trust for a 12 month fixed term appointment. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic member of staff to join our team in Medical & Dental Education working mainly at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in West Smithfield and jointly with the team at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, London.

The role involves working closely with trainee doctors, educational and clinical supervisors, education leads and external organisations and regulators such as Health Education England, to ensure education and training is of a high quality and meets GMC (General Medical Council) standards. The post holder will work with the wider team to ensure our doctors are able to access a comprehensive range of experiences which will enable them to gain the competencies necessary to complete their training programme.

The successful candidate will be conscientious, proactive and keen to learn. They will have shown some degree of experience or knowledge of medical education in their application and interview.

Main duties of the job

The post is responsible for providing the development of administrative systems and functions to support the delivery of education and training for medical students, junior doctors in training and consultant supervisors at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, to meet Trust and regulators requirements and in line with contractual agreements with our educational commissioners.

The post covers a range of activities including the co-ordination and delivery of monthly junior doctors' corporate inductions, local faculty groups, committees, courses, examinations, and educational events, for both Postgraduate and Undergraduate training programmes.

Responsibility for policy and service development

  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of the on-boarding and induction processes (corporate and departmental) for all doctors in training, Trust grade and SAS doctors, undergraduate medical students and physician associates.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures across all administrative functions of postgraduate and undergraduate medical education to ensure the provision of an efficient and effective service.
  • Contribute to the development of feedback mechanisms and evaluation systems for all medical education activities and make recommendations for service improvement where required.
  • Support the delivery of quality improvement projects to improve performance levels within the wider Medical Education team.
  • Work with colleagues at other sites to support the development of shared learning centres across the Trust, identifying opportunities for common systems and processes able to support a full range of education and development activities across all professional groups across all sites.   • Co-ordinate the delivery of undergraduate, foundation and specialty training requirements ensuring quality standards, educational monitoring and reporting requirements are met.
  • Monitor trainee progression with programme requirements and produce reports for education leads, QMUL Medical School and Health Education England.
  • Co-ordinate the ARCP (annual review of competence progression) processes for foundation training and local specialty training programmes (where managed locally), producing documentation and reports as required.
  • Provide guidance and support to medical students and all doctors in training on the St Bartholomews site; monitor their attendance, their placements, programmes, outcomes and assessments.
  • Devise, produce, keep up to date and maintain information and introductory material for students on the site and the facilities on the Medical Schools virtual learning environment (VLE) QMplus platform.
