Job summary
The Barts Health HIV service is one of the largest in the country. It is a fully networked service on 3 sites with shared staff, shared IT systems and policies and procedures. Barts Health HIV offers tertiary referral services for NE London and Essex for a range of HIV related conditions including lymphoma, Kaposi's sarcoma, viral hepatitis, renal disease, neurology/neuro-rehabilitation, cardiovascular disease, ophthalmic and dermatology services. The Barts Health HIV service is one of the largest services in Europe. It manages a cohort of approximately 6000 patients.
The HIV inpatient unit for NE London is at the Royal London Hospital. The HIV department works closely with the trust Infectious Disease department in management of the in-patients and this is reflected in cover arrangements and specialist expertise arrangements.
A highly successful research unit is based in the GHU with a history of delivering > 100 clinical trials nearly in both HIV and HIV/Hepatitis C co-infection.
Main duties of the job
The advertised post is for a clinical fellow HIV Medicine based in Barts Health NHS trust. This post would be suitable for doctors in training who are considering a career in an infection related speciality for higher specialist training.
HIV medicine at Barts Health NHS Trust includes outpatient clinics at the Royal London (The Grahame Hayton Unit), Newham General Hospital (Greenway centre,) and Sir Ludwig Guttmann medical centre in Stratford. The designated HIV inpatient unit for NE London and Essex is based at the Royal London hospital.
