Job summary

We are looking for an experienced senior nurse for Emergency Care at Whipps Cross Hospital, which includes the Acute Assessment Unit, our newly enhanced Same Day Emergency Care service (SDEC) and our Frailty service.

The Senior nurse will play a pivotal role in managing and being professionally accountable for all nursing staff across the service. They will work in partnership with the Clinical Director, General Manager, Divisional and Specialty Leads to ensure the delivery of excellent care, robust operational management and effective delivery of services.

The successful candidate will have a current breadth of experience in managing clinical services, knowledge of service development and change management must be demonstrated. The successful candidate will have up to date knowledge of the NHS and especially in developments relating to emergency care. They will have proven clinical skills and a working knowledge of leading a clinical service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder provides forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within the service group, ensuring the nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively. He/she contributes to the ongoing implementation of the nursing strategy, ensuring achievement of its objectives and strive to develop nursing roles in accordance with patient and service needs.

The Senior Nurse will lead innovative improvement projects which supports the Trust Quality strategy, driving transformation through change models and prepare business cases where appropriate. He/she will ensure patient experience in wards /departments is of the highest possible standard and always reflecting Trust values with particular emphasis on patient safety, dignity and compassion.

The Senior Nurse will work in partnership with the Service Clinical Directors, General and Service Managers and other colleagues to continue to develop and implement a clinical, research and academic service strategy promoting multi professional research, audit and education that contributes to delivering the Hospitals and the Groups objectives. The Senior Nurse will work to ensure staff health and wellbeing is considered within the service objectives.

The post holder may be required to deputise for their line manager in his/her absence, overseeing the smooth running of the service as required.
